Our Beliefs About the Family
Family is the Foundation
We recognize that families and children, regardless of their form, are the
foundation of the community.
Supporting Parental Responsibility
We enhance parents’ capacity for having the primary responsibility for meeting
their children’s physical, emotional and intellectual needs and for providing
moral guidance and direction.
Social Environment Affects Families
We recognize the impact that social, economic and environmental conditions have
on the lives of individuals, families and the community. We assist families in
building protective factors to guard against these risk factors.
Transitions are Stressors
We recognize that families change constantly as parents and children develop
and move through life transitions. We understand that there are predictable
stresses on the family unit as a result of these changes.
Connected Families are Stronger
We recognize that isolation can be harmful for individuals and families, and we
believe in the importance of having connections with others.
A Strength-Based Orientation Delivers Better Outcomes for Families
We embrace a family-centered, strength-based approach and focus, and build on
the strengths and resources of family members.
Cultural Competency is Necessary to Work with Diverse Families
We recognize that family members’ ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds
are critical in understanding the strengths of the family.
Families are Resilient
We believe that families can grow and change through enhancing their capacity
to support the growth and development of all family members.
Families are Resources
We support families to become resources for their own members, other families
and their community.
Parents are the Key Component to Their Child’s Success
We support parents and other caregiver’s in the use of positive parenting
practices and being actively involved in their children’s life and learning.
